The “Start” of Your Success: The Election of 2016

Now that the Election of 2016 is over, there are many things that I could say about the outcome. To be clear, I wanted Hillary Clinton to win. To be transparent, I am an ardent supporter of President Barack Obama. To be honest, I am in shock that Donald Trump is the President-elect. Some people see his win as a tragedy. Others see it as an opportunity. Either way, I am here to say neither of these positions is right; neither of these positions is wrong. A Donald Trump Presidency is neither the beginning of the world, nor the end of it. It is all a matter of perspective and how our beliefs are shaped and molded by politics and our current elected-officials.

I am here to offer a way to change your perspective and hopefully change the way you think now that this election season has come to an end.

The start of your success is the Election of 2016.

I have always been an advocate of “self” as a gift from God: we have the ability to increase (or decrease) our self-motivation, self-reliance, and self-improvement. Notice that these three characteristics have nothing to do with who is the President of the Unites States. Too many people falsely believe that someone or something other than their God-given abilities is the reason for their success, or the reason for their failure. Honestly, the Presidency of Barack Obama, though very inspiring and uplifting to me personally, did little to increase or decrease my standing in this world. Instead, my rise or fall could only be attributed to one cause: me! The same is true for you! Therefore, neither Donald Trump’s victory nor Hillary Clinton’s loss (nor Barack Obama’s exit) should have a tangible effect on your daily output, productivity, and success.

How to deal with the apparent setback if your candidate lost…

Regardless of who sits in the White House, that person has no true responsibility for your happiness or your level of success. It is up to you! Your new task is to accept the fact that life is full of possibilities waiting to be discovered each day. Opportunity abounds! Now is the time to open your eyes and seek new challenges. Now is the time to take a risk. Now is the time to tell someone you love them. Now is the time to focus. Now is the time to be proactive. Now is the time to press on. WAKE UP! As you can see, if you choose not to do these things, the world may give you a different result than you were expecting.

This election has proven to me that personal responsibility, a renewed commitment to excellence, and increasing knowledge are a few of the bedrock principles that will lead to success. Successful people define and expect victory. They build seemingly endless reservoirs of faith. Successful people believe in the power of thinking in terms of if and when things will happen. They dream and use their vision to see what success looks like and how it will ultimately feel. Your success neither depends on any elected official, nor does it depend on who is supposed to be leading you. Your success ALWAYS depends on YOU!

It doesn’t matter if your candidate lost. If you must, use it as motivation to get your house in order now. Get motivated and move forward!

Either way, you win! The start of your success is the Election of 2016.
