Integrity: Motivation for the World, One Person at a Time

Integrity… an excerpt from the soon to be released book:

integrity-definition

Integrity refers to your belief-system and how you follow your beliefs regardless of the situation. Regardless of where you are in the success process, you should have a clear and defined set of values that guide your life and your decision-making. These values can be corrupted, so your level of integrity is how you stick to your principles even when challenges happen. For successful people, adherence to their code survives the test of time and any hardships that occur.

On the road to success, you will encounter many obstacles, hardships, and challenges. Sometimes you will be able to meet these challenges head-on, do battle with them, and come out on top. Other times it will not be that simple. These are the times when we must face a decision to stay the course, give up the fight, or find a shortcut that might even the odds. Your integrity kicks in when you seek a solution that may test your code of ethics and morality. Will you take the high road, or will you take the low road?

When your victory is uncertain, will your keep your integrity? If your dreams and vision start to blur, will you keep your integrity? What happens to your level of integrity when you lack or lose motivation? Once you realize you missed achieving one of your goals, does your integrity lead you to assess, recalculate, and retry achieving your goal? While fear overtakes you and courage is nowhere to be found, will your integrity stick with you or let you down? As work begins to drag on and one, will your integrity allow you to do a good job anyway? Will the failures that are sure to come cause you to abandon your integrity?

The answers to these questions lie in our use of our ethics, which are also based on our belief-system. Ethics are an integral part of integrity, but each of us has our own code of ethics we live by. What is a code of ethics? It is a set of rules or principles that are established as personal guidelines. Everyone has a code of ethics: guidelines on what things they would and would not do in a given situation. Only you know the line not to cross in each situation; sometimes this line goes against the integrity you possess. External forces can have influence over this as well. Someone may or may not be able to talk you into doing something that goes against your ethics and integrity. A situation may or may not be able to make you go against your ethics. Integrity is holding on to your beliefs in spite of your current situation. I say it is striving to do the right thing, even when others do not. Our integrity will be challenged, especially when we take our eyes off our own road to see what others are doing. A surefire way to determine if you are doing this is to use this test: ask yourself if it seems like everyone is bending some rules to get ahead? If you say yes, then you have the potential to go along with the crowd, or go against the grain to see the levels of “success” others achieve.

… So you must keep your integrity high even when success seems far away. Live by your code of ethics to achieve victory. Let your integrity, and the knowledge that you will keep it, fuel your passion for achieving your dreams and goals. Use your integrity to build the courage required to overcome fear. Integrity allows you to minimize risk, which in turn can be used to create luck through recognizing opportunities. Finally, you can let failures come and go because you know they will not cause you to lose your integrity.

Affirmation: I understand how the process demands that I keep my integrity as I achieve greater levels of success.
